Meet Our Team
The Silk Farm Retreat in Provence was founded by Shona in 2019. Towards the end of the first summer Sabine joined the Team. Having known each other since their University days they were brought closer by a joint passion for yoga and well-being.
Silk Retreats was born out of their love of living life in balance. They take a holistic approach to wellbeing and believe in taking care of both the mind and body to create healthy synergy.
Shona having trained in luxury hospitality and Sabine in customer experience means that they know a thing or two about how to make guests feel special. Genuine care is at the heart of what they do, whether at home or on holiday, they'll create a space for you, your friends and family to relax, reset and rebalance.

Sabine's Story "My journey to becoming a yoga teacher was driven by my craving to explore inwards. This yearning to understand myself and my place in the world led me to my spiritual place early on. Taking a break from the fast pace London life, I escaped the office by going backpacking solo around India. Traveling alone healed me from the loss of identity I'd felt working in an industry that didn't suit me. Living in third world countries alone taught me a lot about inner strength and resilience. In April 2016 I studied to become a yoga teacher at an Ashram with The Himalayan Yoga Institute. I deepened my spiritual practice with Vipanassa spending 24 days in silent meditating. Discovering the only way to truly know yourself is to spend time alone. Life now has evolved, I am working full time and juggling home life and yoga teaching. My goal is to bring my collective experience to my students. In my classes you'll receive absolute empathy around the constant struggle of balancing life’s realities and your personal aspirations and hopefully a lot of fun and laughter. I joined Shona, at The Silk Farm the end of last summer in 2019 and we are so excited to be continuing this journey. We really hope to see you soon." |
Shona's Story "In many respects, a few year ago, my life from the outside, looked like I was living ‘the dream’. I was working as a Chef on a luxury yachts in the Mediterranean off St Tropez. But in reality I was going days without sleep, on duty 24x7, leading to physical and mental strain. The stress of the life I was leading was taking me down a dark path. With foodie parents who love nothing more than a languorous dinner, it seems almost inevitable in hindsight that I would become a chef. But try telling that to my teenage self. I moved to Paris as an eighteen-year-old for a boyfriend, my place at Parsons School of Art & Design, and the food – in that order. By the time I entered my twenties that order had reversed. It was in large part due to eating in Parisian bistros like 'Juveniles Wine Bar' which served simple, delicious food sourced from the best produce, and to this day that is exactly what I aspire to deliver at every meal. When I finished my third – and final – season at sea I swore to myself that I would do things differently. I signed up for my first Yoga Teacher Training and almost three years later, I count it as one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Over the last 10 years I have cooked everywhere from soup kitchens to castles, but the way I cook has always stayed the same: simply prepared meals using only the finest ingredients. And if you choose the Silk Retreats, that’s exactly what you’ll get. In 2019, I opened the doors at The Silk Farm for the first time, a home from home, a sanctuary for souls in need of relaxation, rest and balance." |
